Cookie
Notice.
How kikan.ca may use cookies and similar technologies—and the choices available to you.
Essential technologies support core operation and security. Optional technologies should be used only for the purposes disclosed and with an appropriate choice where consent is required.
This Cookie Notice explains how Kikan.ca Inc. (“Kikan”, “we”, “us” or “our”) uses or may use cookies, pixels, local storage, scripts and related technologies on kikan.ca. It should be read with our Privacy Policy.
01
About this notice
Some website technologies are necessary to deliver a requested page, protect forms, balance traffic, remember a privacy choice or secure the Website. Others may measure use, remember optional preferences, embed third-party content or support advertising.
When a technology collects, uses or discloses information about an identifiable individual, Kikan handles that information under applicable privacy law. We identify purposes clearly and seek meaningful consent where required.
This notice does not itself activate or deactivate a technology. Your choices are applied through the Website’s cookie-preference system and your browser or device controls.
02
Cookies and similar technologies
A small text file stored by your browser. It may last for a browsing session or remain until its set expiry or deletion.
Browser storage that can retain settings or identifiers beyond a single page request.
Code that can record events such as a page view, referral, button interaction or form completion.
A record generated when your device requests a page or resource, often including IP address, timestamp and technical data.
First-party technologies are set by kikan.ca. Third-party technologies are provided by another organization whose systems may receive information when their service loads.
03
Technology categories
| Category | Purpose | Choice |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Provide requested pages, maintain security, prevent misuse, route traffic, protect forms, remember privacy choices and support core WordPress functions. | These cannot normally be disabled through the Website because the requested service may not work without them. |
| Functional | Remember optional settings or enable enhanced features, embedded media or communication tools. | Used only if configured and permitted by your preference or other lawful authority. |
| Analytics | Understand aggregated Website use, performance, navigation and technical problems so Kikan can improve the experience. | Used only if configured and with the required notice and choice. |
| Advertising and social media | Measure campaigns, connect visits across services, personalize advertising or enable social-platform functionality. | Used only if configured and after the appropriate consent. These technologies are not necessary to access general Website content. |
The Website’s live preference panel should identify each active non-essential technology, its provider, purpose, category and duration. Kikan must update that register whenever a plugin, tag, embed or provider changes.
04
Information and purposes
Depending on the technologies in use and your choices, Kikan or an authorized provider may process:
- IP address, approximate location derived from IP and network information;
- browser, device, operating system, language and screen characteristics;
- requested pages, timestamps, referral source and navigation events;
- cookie, session, consent or device identifiers;
- form-status, error, fraud-prevention and security events; and
- campaign, link or interaction data where an optional measurement tool is enabled.
We use this information only for the stated category purposes, to protect the Website, maintain consent records, diagnose errors, measure performance and—if separately enabled—understand communications or campaigns. Website analytics do not approve, rank or decide a trade inquiry or supplier application.
05
Third-party providers and transfers
WordPress plugins, hosting, security, form, embedded-content, analytics or communications services may place or read technologies when their functions are enabled. A third party may process information under its own terms as an independent organization or on Kikan’s behalf as a service provider.
Providers may process information outside Alberta or Canada, where it may be subject to local law and lawful access by authorities. Kikan evaluates providers and uses reasonable contractual, administrative and technical controls appropriate to the service and information.
Do not infer that a provider is active merely because its category is described in this notice. The live preference panel is intended to identify the technologies actually configured on the Website.
06
Manage your choices
- 01
Use the preference panel
Select “Manage Cookie Preferences” in the Website banner or on this page to accept or reject optional categories.
- 02
Change your decision
Reopen the preference panel at any time. A change should apply prospectively and remain until you change it, clear storage or the preference expires.
- 03
Use browser controls
You can view, block or delete cookies through browser settings. Blocking essential storage may prevent forms, security functions or preferences from working correctly.
- 04
Control providers
Some browsers, devices and third parties provide additional privacy or advertising controls. Those controls are operated independently of Kikan.
07
Duration and retention
A session cookie ordinarily expires when you close the browser. A persistent cookie remains until its configured expiry or until you delete it. Local storage may remain until deleted by the Website, provider or user.
Each technology should use a duration proportionate to its purpose. Kikan retains related server logs, consent records and analytics information only as long as reasonably necessary for the stated purpose, security, accountability and applicable legal requirements, as explained in the Privacy Policy.
08
Global Privacy Control and “Do Not Track”
Browser privacy signals are evolving and are not interpreted consistently by all websites or providers. Kikan should honour a legally recognized signal where applicable and technically supported. The Website’s preference panel remains the primary method for recording optional-cookie choices.
Because independent embedded services may respond differently, review their notices and controls where you choose to enable their content.
09
Changes and contact
We may update this notice when technologies, providers, purposes or legal requirements change. The revised notice will be posted with an updated date, and we will request a new choice when required.
