Accessibility
Statement.
Kikan is working to make its website understandable, operable and useful for people with diverse abilities and technologies.
WCAG 2.2 Level AA is Kikan’s target. The Website has not yet been represented as fully conformant or independently certified; testing and remediation are continuing.
Kikan.ca Inc. (“Kikan”, “we”, “us” or “our”) wants people with disabilities to be able to access our public Website and communicate with us in a manner that respects dignity, independence and equal opportunity.
01
Our commitment
Accessibility is an ongoing responsibility, not a one-time feature or automated score. Kikan seeks to identify, prevent and remove digital barriers as the Website, its content and third-party services evolve.
We consider accessibility when designing pages, writing content, selecting plugins, publishing documents, building forms and reviewing feedback. Where the Website does not meet a person’s needs, we will consider a reasonable alternative way to provide the information or service.
02
Accessibility target and status
Kikan’s technical target is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA. WCAG is organized around four principles: content should be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust.
We are working toward this target. Until representative pages, forms, documents and user flows have completed appropriate manual and assistive-technology testing, Kikan does not claim that every part of the Website fully conforms to WCAG 2.2 AA.
Meeting a technical checklist may not address every individual need. Feedback from people who encounter barriers is an essential part of our improvement process.
03
Measures built into the Website
Semantic landmarks, descriptive headings, meaningful link text and a logical reading order are used to support navigation.
Interactive controls are intended to work without a mouse, with visible keyboard focus and no intentional keyboard traps.
Responsive layouts, readable type, restrained motion and colour combinations are designed to support zoom, reflow and contrast.
Forms are intended to use associated labels, understandable instructions, clear validation and accessible status or error communication.
Informative images should include text alternatives; decorative imagery should be ignored by assistive technology; meaningful video should include appropriate alternatives.
The design respects reduced-motion settings and does not intentionally rely on colour, hover or animation alone to communicate meaning.
These measures describe Kikan’s design intent and implementation requirements. Individual components still require testing after WordPress, theme, plugin or content changes.
04
Compatibility and technical foundation
The Website is intended to support current versions of major browsers, operating-system accessibility features, keyboard navigation, screen magnification and commonly used screen readers. Older browsers or unsupported assistive-technology combinations may provide a reduced experience.
Accessibility relies on modern HTML, CSS and JavaScript and, where necessary, WAI-ARIA. Native HTML is preferred. JavaScript may be required for navigation, forms, cookie preferences or other interactive functions, but essential information should remain understandable wherever reasonably possible.
Compatibility varies by browser, device, assistive technology, settings, third-party component and individual configuration. Contact us if a particular combination creates a barrier.
05
Known and potential limitations
Despite ongoing work, barriers may occur in:
- third-party forms, cookie tools, media players, maps or embedded services that Kikan does not fully control;
- older documents, images or files that were not originally created in an accessible format;
- complex tables, diagrams, maps, technical records or scanned material;
- automated validation, error messages or status updates generated by WordPress plugins;
- content supplied by an external party; or
- new or recently changed pages awaiting accessibility review.
We do not treat a third-party limitation as a reason to ignore a barrier. We will assess available remediation, replacement, assistance or alternative-format options based on the circumstances.
06
Accessibility assistance and alternative formats
If you cannot access information, complete a Website form or use a function because of a disability-related barrier, contact us. Tell us what you were trying to access and the format or accommodation that may help.
Depending on the material and request, an alternative may include accessible electronic text, a structured document, a plain-language explanation, assistance completing a form or another reasonable communication method. We will consult with you where appropriate and provide accommodation to the point of undue hardship as required by applicable law.
Requests involving confidential commercial or identity information may require a secure channel and identity or authority verification. Accessibility assistance does not remove lawful due-diligence, security or confidentiality requirements, but we will seek an accessible way to meet them.
07
Report an accessibility barrier
Email or write to Kikan with:
- the page address, document or function involved;
- a description of the barrier and what you were trying to do;
- your browser, device or assistive technology, if you are comfortable sharing it;
- the alternative format or accommodation requested; and
- how you prefer us to respond.

We aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within five business days. The time required to investigate or provide an alternative will depend on the request, format, complexity, security considerations and third-party involvement.

Assessment and continuing review
Kikan’s accessibility process should combine automated testing with manual keyboard, zoom, reflow, contrast, screen-reader, form, error-handling and mobile checks. Automated tools alone cannot determine conformance or usability.
We review the Website as content and technology change, prioritize barriers according to impact and frequency, and update this statement after material assessments or improvements. The last-reviewed date above reflects the statement review and is not, by itself, evidence of a full conformance audit.
09
Canadian and Alberta context
Alberta’s human-rights framework prohibits discrimination based on physical or mental disability in protected areas, including goods and services customarily available to the public, and recognizes a duty to accommodate to the point of undue hardship.
The federal Accessible Canada Act applies to organizations and activities under federal responsibility, including specified federally regulated private-sector industries. Kikan does not publish this statement as a representation that it is a federally regulated entity or that the Act necessarily applies to its Website.
Kikan adopts WCAG 2.2 AA as a responsible digital-accessibility target and will comply with accessibility and human-rights requirements that apply to its actual activities.
